Damien Hirst Art Guitars for Joe Strummer & Strummerville
How do you fancy wielding a guitar that actually doubles as a piece of art by none other than Damien Hirst himself? But do you frame it and mount it on your wall and wait a few years for the value to rise or do you use it on stage as you make your own bid for stardom?
These rather special guitar art pieces have been produced by Damien Hirst to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Clash frontman Joe Strummer’s death. Hirst has dot painted a Fender Telecaster and spin painted an Eastwood acoustic guitar. The two exclusive works will be raffled at the Strummer of Love festival in Somerset 17th-19th August. And it’s all for a worthy cause – all proceeds will go to Strummerville: The Joe Strummer New Music Foundation. Tickets cost £20 and can be purchased at www.strummeroflove.com/raffle or you can buy one for only £10 if you get yourself to the Strummer of Love festival this summer. Fittingly the winning tickets will be drawn on stage at the festival by former Clash guitarist Mick Jones on Sunday August 19th.
Damien Hirst said: “I love Strummerville and have supported it since it started ten years ago as it gives kids and adults the opportunity and platform to create and record music for a wider audience. I hope that by donating these two guitars much needed funds can be raised to help carry on supporting the brilliant work they do.”
The festival itself looks a great bet. All funds raised also go to The Joe Strummer Foundation to aid all the good work they do. The line up is not full of the usual suspects either but is packed with leftfield quality such as The Pogues, Seasick Steve and Frank Turner. Ticket information at www.strummeroflove.com
