Spring Summer 2012 Collection Preview – Topshop Unique
Intrepid Flux writer Charlotte Davey braved the frenzied chaos that is London Fashion Week to bring us the best and most inspiring of the Spring Summer 2012 collections on display. Sorting the wheat from the chafe was no mean feat but after a bit of brutal editing here is our final selection. Next up is Unique.
Topshop was back in the abandoned Eurostar terminal, as Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell, Pixie Geldof, Jefferson Hack, Olivia Palermo, and many more came were among those that made the trek south of the River Thames. The invitations had been photos of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and as The Bangles ‘Walk Like and Eqyptian’ was turned up, opening the show, the theme was well and truly set. There were Pharaonic references aplenty, as models slinked down the runway with gold painted hair, sporting hieroglyphic and gold snake adorned outfits. Then, as Jay-Z replaced The Bangles, the show became more of a 90s hip-hop Eqypt. The collection was very sports-wear, with hoodies, track pants, and plenty of gold bling. Silhouettes also reflected a 90s sporty motif, with oversized bomber jackets on skinny legs. Definitely one trend to watch came in the form of the gold ‘flatforms’, sure to be making the rounds this Spring.
If the pretty ice cream outfits are not for you, then this trend should see you through Spring Summer 2012. We’ve certainly never been more excited to walk like an Egyptian than this achingly cool 90s hip-hop Topshop version.
