ON/OFF at A/W 2010 London fashion week firmly remembered that art is something that provokes a reaction. Battling it out to be the best, Tour De Force had an impressive collection inspired by the architect Buckminster Fuller. Designer, Camille Rogan, used ever so serious geometric shapes and structures alongside traditional childhood games to create an array of avant-garde headwear.
Absolute faves include an enchanting Maypole Beret - a mini piece of architecture crowning the wearer’s head. Focusing strongly on folds, the Central Saint Martin’s graduate, has also created clothing pieces to compliment her accessories range. The pastel pink Knot Dress with the Madonna-esque bullet bra that seems due to make a massive return for S/S 2010.
Could you tell me about your inspirations for your S/S 010 collection?
I was inspired by the architectural theories of Buckminster Fuller and the playfull process of constructing games and puzzles.
What's your story so far, what have you been involved in/working on since graduating from Saint Martin's?
When I graduated I went into accessories, working for Johnny Loves Rosie and then for Lulu Guinness, but I always continued designing designing Womenswear as inheritly I am always drawn to creating the whole look. I started off producing my own range of headwear and my big break came when a piece was included in the Stephen Jones Exhibition at the V&A which was a massive suprise! This season is very exciting as it's my first season presenting at LFW at On/Off so I am so flattered they have allowed my to be part of this exhibition.
Who do you see wearing TOUR DE FORCE?
Lady Gaga has worn some of my pieces, which is amazing as she truly inspires me with her obvious passion for her art and avante garde design, I would also love to dress the band Of Montreal- especially Kevin Barnes as they have the most incredible visual Psycadelic performances, and I think you dont have to be female for my deigns- headpieces especially are unisex! I also think Lara Stone is divine and would love to someday see her in any of my creations!
How did you come to include into clothing within your head wear collection?
I never really stopped designing women's clothing, as I was doing it before I went into education as an obsessive hobby, so although I went into accessories upon graduating my ambition has always been to create full-looks, so its great to be able to start introducing womenswear.
What is your personal connection to TOUR DE FORCE, for example is it linked to a childhood memory, your favourite past time etc??
I like the phrase 'Tour De Force' because it’s used to express and celebrate a great acheivement. I tend to sometimes be a little over-ambitious when I start working on an idea, but I think its good to aim for something which is beyond what I imagine I can personally acheive. Therefore if I pull it off, the results should get better every time. Fingers crossed!
