Salvatore Ferragamo and Yohji Yamamoto, are two names unlikely to be caught up in the same sentence. Yet, the traditional Italian shoemaker has teamed up with the experimental clothes designer to become fashion’s most unlikely collaboration.
Creating his new Autumn/Winter footwear collection Yamamoto was inspired by Ferragamo’s archives and his time-honoured craftsmanship that involves 150 steps into making an individual shoe.
The outcome is eight different models, which retain the classic expertise of Ferragamo’s craft with simplistic lace-up racing and boxing styles that are decorated by Yamamoto’s conceptual flair of deconstructed lines and zig-zag style patterns. The colour palette sticks mainly monochrome with brave dashes of red and sea-greens. Alongside the wacky sports pumps is a stand out 1920 two-tone brogue sure to fly off the shelves.
The Salvatore Ferragamo for Yohji Yamamoto mini-collection will be available at Yohji Yamamoto boutiques and select Ferragamo stores around the world.
