Strange trees is a limited edition book produced by Jayne Compton in collaboration with Rachel Goodyear (and other artists) which tells the story of Manchester's avant-garde club night, Club Brenda (through a dark urban fairytale, featuring series of commissioned photography and artwork. The book is a literary visualization of Brenda, and the artists, performers and bands who performed there; the mis-fits who lurk in the shadows of the city form become part of the narrative, and in turn the book is an additional format to showcase their work.
Instead of Jack and the Giant, Strange Trees tells the story of Dirty Honky, who turns vaudeville tricks for magic beans. Savage Wolf prowls through the ever-changing forest but isn't quite the predator we expect, and the same goes for Holly Gore, who some like to call the witch... in the strange forest of Club Brenda, no one remains what they were...
