Suede Bloodsports: Back & On Form with New Album & Video

Suede Bloodsports album released! At their height Suede wrote dramatic roller-coaster pop that played with your heartstrings with their tales of young doomed lovers and anthems to outsiderdom. Now they return with ‘Bloodsports’ their first new album for ten years.

You might expect a mellowing with time, a more mature and a more, dare I say it, dulled down sound. Well no actually – this is the Britpop Suede as they were at their trashy glam peak. The free download track ‘Barriers’ is a fine example and is, as you’ll hear for yourself, Suede back at their urgent best. Watch the video below:

It was always Brett Anderson’s voice that stole the show for me. That intense wail-like, sarcastic, dramatic voice that meandered its way through the guitar lines. It was a voice that never quite sat with the other more typical Britpop bands; a style that was never an easy fit amongst the britpop fashion. Well now it’s back with the same emotional impact and tales of misunderstood lovers like some trashy boy-meets-girl B-Movie from some long forgotten decade.

Brett Anderson said: “After a year of sweating and bleeding over the record it’s finally finished so we wanted to get some music out there as soon as we could. Suede Barriers isn’t the first single but we are proud of it enough just to chuck it out there and thought that it’s pulsing, romantic swell somehow summed up the feel of the album quite nicely. The album is called Bloodsports. It’s about lust, it’s about the chase, it’s about the endless carnal game of love. It was possibly the hardest we’ve ever made but certainly the most satisfying. Its ten furious songs for me have reclaimed from ourselves what Suede was always about; drama, melody and noise. ”

Suede Bloodsports comes out in March 2013 preceded by the single ‘It Starts And Ends With You’ in February. The band is also set to play a one off show at London’s Alexandra Palace on Saturday March 30th 2013. Tickets are on sale now.
