Have you ever wondered what goes on inside the head of Nigel Farage? I have and it looks like the people over at Alcopop! Records have been giving this some serious thought too.
They are about to release a 7” single titled The Wit and Wisdom of Nigel Farage. The sucker punch is that the record is entirely blank.
When he first arrived on the political scene Farage was dismissed as a bit of a joke but now he’s a serious contender. This has rocked UK politics and worried many on the right and left. He is bound to have an impact in the forthcoming election but who is he and what makes him tick?
The record is released during the week of the general election and is designed to make people stop and think about Nigel Farage, UKIP and the serious impact he and his party could have on the country if they ever got their hands on power. The idea is based around the infamous Stiff Records release in 1980 aimed at Ronald Reagan which again was completely blank.
Jack, of Alcopop! Records said: “We’ve always thought that Stiff Records Reagan 7” was about the best thing that’s ever happened, and it felt like it was the right time to take a leaf out of their book. We’re not a massively political label, and we’re not trying to tell people who to vote for. We’re just genuinely terrified at what could happen to this country if people listen to the slick, media savvy cult of Farage rather than actually looking at his policies… So anything we can do in our small way to make people question his political motives is something we’re delighted to be involved in.”
A proportion of the profits will go to The Migrants Rights Network which is a great idea and subverts Farage and his message quite cleverly we think. Alcopop! have a bit of a track record with UKIP and their leader having tried to appropriate their website back in January.
The B side is a stirring remix by Rou of Shikari Sound System (and Enter Shikari) which contains what he imagines is in Nigel Farage’s head namely dripping taps, ambient noise and seagulls.
