The Dø – Gonna Be Sick – New Single Release & Video

The Dø singer Olivia Merilahti leaves the city and her sweetheart behind and takes to the stormy seas in the slick new video for their single – Gonna be sick. Cue Shakespeare references, stylized fabric waves and unnatural events (all filmed in black and white), as gorgeously windswept Olivia fights back her seasickness, and sinister figures in white robes hover in her direction. Poor girl. She’s gonna throw gonna throw gonna throw up.

The new single release starts slowly with deadpan vocals set against a bluesy Marimba line. “Pitbulls at night, put up a fight, Skeleton bone, tasting alright” coos Olivia softly in a way that manages to be cryptic and seductive at the same time. As the understated beat builds, the bass and guitar take a backseat and allow the plaintive vocals to cut through- “he was brave and rescued me, jumped in oceans raging seas” she howls.

Something about this one will keep you hitting the replay button. The Dø have pulled it off: a track that manages to swagger and wear its heart on its sleeve, and a music video that you’ll want to watch again and again. Raw and effortlessly cool.
