Termite Eyewear create wood glasses for a Palm Beach Summer

by Charly Suggett

It seems as if everyone is saying their products are ‘Made in Britain’ nowadays. Anyone can find a way to make such claims and jump on the bandwagon. Well Termite Eyewear are making wood glasses frames with a fundamental and genuine approach. Theirs is a ‘Made in the UK’ principle they stick to.

Created as a business venture by two (now happily graduated) students of Ravensbourne University, Patricia Williams and Natalie Finch started TERMITE eyewear in 2012 with an ‘organic’ aesthetic and vision for their cool glasses frames. As well as studying, the girls have created a brand which is the embodiment of cool and quirky. Now that’s not bad multi-tasking and they continually experiment with sustainably sourced materials and even scraps of acetate to create the cool lenses which are available in even cooler colourways! Imagine Burgundy and Forest Green lenses that appeared in their ‘Barber’ collection, which drew inspiration from the Old English Heritage.

The ultra fashionable glasses shapes are created by Laser cut using independent wood sources. Each piece is then individually hand worked to get a perfect finish. With Birch Ply being their signature finish, their new SS15 collection sees inspiration pulled from 1970’s Miami photography with dip dye styles and bright vivid colour palettes.

Shapes are quirky and fun, industrial in style which supports their modern aesthetic and approach to their design and production methods. They are durable enough not to get crushed at the bottom of your handbag, like many deceased pairs of mine…

Termite eyewear: prices ranging from around £120 for the Base collection and up to £200 for their seasonal styles.
