What are the best routes to travel in Europe?

words Al Woods

Thanks to its world-famous destinations, incredible views and rich history, Europe is an enduring destination for road-trippers from across the globe. The continent is well connected, and the countries typically have great infrastructure that allows you to drive from one to the other in just a few hours.

With all your essential documents, including proof of identity, an up-to-date MOT and proof of the car insurance that will cover you in case of any breakdowns, you’ll have everything you need to get started on your journey.

The only thing that’s left is to decide where you’re going. To help, we’ve put together this list of four European travel routes that we think are best.

The Big Greek Road Hop

This 7–10-day route takes you on a spectacular journey across the Peloponnese – the peninsula just off the south of mainland Greece.

Though the days of grand battle between Athens and Sparta are long gone, this picturesque part of the world still makes for truly epic viewing. The Big Greek Road Hop has you depart from Athens, travel through Levidi, Nafplio and Mystras, and finish the route in Laconia.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

Take in the beauty of Italy during this 2-week road trip. Start in Florence, home of the world-famous Medici family, before exploring the picturesque hills of Tuscany. Next up, Siena – a medieval city steeped in history – before driving through the hill towns to Rome itself. To top it all off, bask in the majesty of the Amalfi Costs’ steep hillsides and pastel-coloured villages.

The Romantic Road, Germany

Visit some stunning views in the southern provinces of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg. The Romantic Road is based on old Roman routes and features over 15 of Germany’s best towns and villages. It’s not hard to see why it’s such a popular tourist attraction, featuring three medieval walled towns, iconic castles and much more besides.

The Atlantic Road, Norway

Sometimes referred to as the most beautiful journey in Scandinavia, this series of eight meandering bridges give you a driving experience like no other. Right along the ocean’s edge and completely exposed to the elements, The Atlantic Road connects Averoy with the mainland via many small islands that let you experience nature in an unforgettable way.
