The AKG Y Series – Stylish, quality headphones for all

We’re well used to elite fashion houses bringing out diffusion ranges. They use their know-how and design pedigree then tweak the brand name and then bring out clothes that the rest of us can afford.

Well in a welcome move for audiophiles on a more modest budget AKG, well known for their high end, highly specked headphones, have brought out their own diffusion range, the Y series.

The mid end of the market will be nervous at this news with good reason. If people are spending £70 to £100 on headphones they will way them up on both quality and design. Design wise the AKG Y series are quite striking with their sleek profile and bold colourways. This is the first time that AKG have moved into the lifestyle arena but they haven’t dumbed down in terms of the spec and quality.

The enhanced logo design marks out the AKG Y50 headphones which packs 40 mm drivers plus feature a closed cup design which means you can close the world off and fold them up neatly when not in use. These should cost you £79.99 should you opt for these.

If they are a bit too bold for you there’s the more subtle AKG Y40 cans with blue, yellow and black accents that retails at £79.99. Both come with a metre long detachable cable and mic so you can go hands free when using with a phone.

Call me a sucker for a glimpse of brushed matt metal but I do like the AKG45 BT. These are rechargeable and wireless and can connect to your phone and other music devices via Bluetooth and NFC so you can enjoy top quality sound without having to hook up different machines as you need them. No more snagging that annoying wire as you listen to your favourite tracks on that packed commute plus you can dance the night away in your underwear without tripping yourself up in the comfort of your own home. These also fold up so you can store easily when not in use. You can get them in black with grey trim or white with beige trim and retail at £109.99.

With AKG’s reputation for audio innovation, the standout design and accessible price point, the Y series should make waves now they’re launched and available to the public across the UK.
