Islington Mill event – Cheryl & Off With Their Heads presents Royal Ruckus

by Thomas Browne

“Like glue sticks and frozen burritos, CHERYL comes with a warning: this is the dance party that will ruin your life.”

Finally a Jubilee party that actually sounds like it’s a barrel of fun rather than a sentimental pile of gibbering royalist posturing. Let’s face it The Royals have no power anyway (a nifty way of avoiding revolution that was) so why some people are so pompous and chest beating proud of the whole concept is a mystery to me. Can we at least have some irreverent fun with it all? Well cue Cheryl the very naughty cat masked art collective from Brooklyn. They are taking over Islington Mill in Salford for a night of revelry and sedition that will be sadly lacking at your local royalist street party.

So get yourself down to the world of the Great Kitten where you too can become a ruler and be crowned King or Queen as you arrive and take on oath upon the disco orb. Collaborating and cavorting with Kitten for this legendary night will be Eggs Collective, Volkov Commanders, Organ Freeman, Sex Hands, Bollox DJs, Trash-o-Rama, DJ Jorge Vieira, Brutal Ruth, Northern Crosses, Raw Like Sissy, Chew Disco, Good Afternoon DJs, Pumping Iron & Lucy Ironmonger.

It’s our Liz’s 60th year in power, the event will run from 6 till 6 in the 6th month of the year and it will cost you a mere £6 in advance from Skiddle. Things not to miss include Mass Coronation Ceremonies, Participatory Rituals, Flash Mob Processions, Royal Banquet Pinatas, Disco Cave v3, Dressing Up & Dance Floor Explosions.

It’s a going to be a long day what with all this celebrating/commiserating the Royal Family and all so there’ll be some great food on offer in the form of the Queen Cafe. In a similar vein to our ‘Candle in the Wind’ cafe at the Royal Wedding last year they’ll be playing Queen songs all day and serving up a selection of delights, including Diamond Jubilee Chicken – their own ‘special’ recipe.
