High fashion meets high speed: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

High fashion meets high speed with Mercedes-Benz in the newest campaign from the iconic motor car maker.

With their three-pointed star arguably the most ubiquitous symbol of luxury and style in the automotive world, Mercedes-Benz’ alignment with the fashion world is a podium victory for all concerned.

Championing fashion with their support for multiple fashion weeks around the world, the new AW15 campaign from the German car maker celebrates their fashion roster of 50 events in 30 countries. It seems the motor giant is taking over with Mercedes- Benz Fashion Weeks in New York, Australia, Moscow and Berlin backed up by support for fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris.

Mercedes-Benz have previously collaborated with Nick Knight, Mario Testino, Ryan McGinley, Tilda Swinton, Lara Stone, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls in their fashion campaigns. And this year, in a collision of mammoth proportions, the campaign has been masterminded by photographer Collier Schorr. The velocity is supplied by Formula 1’s newly crowned World Champion Lewis Hamilton alongside rival and team-mate Nico Rosberg (both drivers for the UK-based Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team of course); and the dazzle comes from model and actress Dree Hemingway, famously great-granddaughter of Ernest, and a fashion circuit regular.

For the shoot, the trio were transported to the vast Sindelfingen wind-tunnel, an uncompromising test ground where car designs are tested to destruction against the elements. If you’re there on the right day, you might see temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 60 degrees Celsius, hurricanes with wind speeds of up to 265 km/h, tropical rainfall or heavy snowstorms all brought indoors. So yes, that is a real impressively huge, operational propeller that our fashionable triad are posing with in their tailored suits and cocktail dresses (provided by Hugo Boss in a show of German unity).

We’ll leave it to you to decide if the humans in the shot are overshadowed by their two mechanically and aesthetically exquisite four-wheeled companions. Mr. Rosberg is in the bang up to date strappingly muscular Mercedes-AMG GT, whilst Hamilton takes the experimental 1970’s gull-winged classic, Mercedes-Benz C111.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York is from 12 to 19 February 2015, followed by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul (16 to 21 March) , Tokyo (16 to 21 March ), Russia (26 to 30 March) and Australia (12 to 16 April). Catch up with Mercedes-Benz Fashion schedule at mbfashionweek.com
