Tonka Eau de Toilette – Laboratory Perfumes Newest Launch

Tonka Eau de Toilette review by Alexa Wang

Spring fragrance launches are always exciting, set against the new season and with a touch of summer heat helping to envelop us in the delicious new aromas.

So we were excited when Tonka Eau de Toilette – the fourth unisex scent from Laboratory Perfumes, hit our mailboxes in its lush deep blue limted edition packaging. Tonka is inspired by the spicy, earthy, vanilla-laced scents of South America, and is an exotic new addition to the London-based perfumer’s existing range of naturally inspired scents and candles.

A newcomer to the fragrance scene founded only in 2011, Laboratory Perfumes’ refreshingly nuanced scents, innovative approach and stylishly simple packaging has already seen its products develop a dedicated international following, embraced by stockists including Liberty, The Conran Shop and Anthropologie. Their natural and gender-free fragrances are scientifically formulated to react to the wearer and evolve over the course of the day. Inspired by the flowers, herbs and aromatic botanicals of Britain and beyond, the range of scent and candles is made from natural oils – a new method of making perfume the old-fashioned way.

Tonka sees them continue to develop their range and expertise marking something of a departure. This is the first time they have ventured beyond the British Isles to source their ingredients, drawing on the spices of South America to create a rich and multilayered yet cleanly elegant fragrance, combining the zing of mandarin and pink peppercorn and warm woodland aromatics with the earthy vanilla notes of the tonka bean.

Like the other products in the Laboratory Perfumes range (Amber, Samphire and Gorse), Tonka is blended in Hampshire, using natural oils, and in keeping with Laboratory Perfumes’ belief that scent transcends gender, is also designed for both women and men.

Tonka is currently available in an exclusive launch edition of 1,000 hand-numbered bottles (£65 for 100ml). Visit www.laboratoryperfumes.com
