J.W. Anderson SS14 – Japanese origami meets disruption

J.W. Anderson is one of those designer loved by the fashion elite, with his innovative collections highly aniticipated every season.

Jonathan William Anderson was born in Northern Ireland but graduated from the London College of Fashion back in 2005 where he studied menswear.

His first menswear collection was launched in 2008 and garnered him much praise from both critics and buyers. The next big step was his first foray into womenswear with his capsule collection that was launched in 2010 with much appreciation and demand from female fans of his menswear. This bold move paid off and his emotive take on contemporary fashion for both genders gathers more admirers with each passing season. The luxury fashion heavyweights LVMH saw the light and invested in the company in 2013 with a minority stake. They and his legions of fans can’t be wrong and the stage is set for a massive 2014 for J.W. Anderson.

His J.W. Anderson Spring / Summer 2014 womenswear collection caused the right kind of stir at London Fashion Week last year, and now it’s hit the brand’s savvy fans up and down the country who can’t wait to finally get their hands on their favourite items. Though still forward looking and with that distinctive edge there is more of a flow and femininity to the latest collection.

The feel is natural meets sculptural. Pleating on smokily sheer fabrics, or transparent fabric bunched into tops and dresses giving a harsh-dreamy feel contrasting with asymmetric bows and sashes. Leather squares were floated into strapless tops, and twisted into cross over shapes worn with shimmering softly patterned skirts.  Corrugated draped dresses and skirts and pieces covered in origami-esque shapes or embossed giving a 3-dimensional texture to the dresses and waistcoats. It’s a disruptive collection, conceptual but with a sexier, more approachable intention. Altogether one of the hippest designers around.

The J.W. Anderson SS14 collection looks like a crowd-pleaser to us and this designer continues his ascent cheered on by the fashion world and fans alike.
