Ahead of the release of Rachel Tunnard’s independent British comedy Adult Life Skills on June 24th, the writer/director’s 2014 short film Emotional Fusebox was released in full today on Vimeo as an official staff pick. The film can be viewed here.

Emotional Fusebox tells the story of Anna who lives in her Mums garden shed making videos with her thumbs. Her Mum wants her to come out, but Anna doesn’t want to.

Nominated for Best British Film in 2014 at the British Independent Film Award’s (BIFA) and a BAFTA for Best Short Film the following year, Emotional Fusebox premiered at The BFI London Film Festival. It would go onto win the audience award at the British Shorts Film Festival in Berlin, and receive the Jury Prize for Best Fiction at the This Is England Film Festival in Rouen. But for all its success on the festival circuit, Emotional Fusebox would be the inspiration for Tunnard’s feature.

The short was a milestone for the then new BFI NET.WORK talent development programme, having the honour of being the first commission nationally under the development of Creative England and the BFI. The former have continued their collaboration with Tunnard through the process of turning Emotional Fusebox into a feature film, with actress Jodie Whittaker returning in the role of Anna.

Premiering at TriBeCa where it won the Nora Ephron Prize, Adult Life Skills will play as an official selection at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June.
