adidas Consortium Superstar 80v INVINCIBLE

adidas Consortium Superstar 80v INVINCIBLE – words Amy Turnbull

It may be a 30 year old sneaker but it’s certainly had the hero treatment for its anniversary this year. It’s been a phenomenal year for the Superstar. That is winding up with the luxurious adidas Consortium Superstar treatment, this time in a collaboration between adidas and Taipei’s INVINCIBLE.

Famous for its curated collection of international brands and high profile collaborations. INVINCIBLE is a retailer recognised across the sneaker globe. For their interpretation of one of adidas’ most iconic silhouettes, INVINCIBLE have had creative carte blanche on the archetypal Superstar, the 80v. This is a unique sneaker for real diehards.

The design inspiration for their shoe tracks back to the style and aesthetics of the indigenous people of Taiwan. Incorporating the blue, white and red shades of Taiwanese traditional costumes, a unique row of tiny beads appear around a fold down collar with a zig-zag edge. Fish-skin, which is found on traditional armor used for ceremonial purposes and ritual fights, is another reference to Taiwanese heritage. It appears on the tongue of the shoe. Also check out the embroidered three stripes and the custom-designed pattern. A mix of tribal elements and logo references – on the insoles providing a overall hand-crafted feel.

INVINCIBLE have delivered a high concept design bringing a new, exotic spirit to the classic silhouette of the Superstar. This is a great example of a concept brand going that extra mile. The Superstar 80v INVINCIBLE is an ambassador for the retailer’s creative enthusiasm as well as for Taiwan and its rich cultural heritage.

The grey version of the adidas Consortium Superstar 80v INVINCIBLE is available now at No.42 Paris, No.74 Berlin and selected Consortium retailers. The exclusive monochromatic black version is available exclusively at INVINCIBLE, No.42 Paris, and No.74 Berlin.
