If you know your cocktails, you’ll be well aware of cult cocktail, the White Russian. So what is in a White Russian? Well, the twist on the Black Russian achieved by the addition of cream, the ‘Russian’ in the title comes from the primary ingredient in both variants – vodka.
Of course the other essential is coffee liqueur, Kahlúa, all the way from the vibrant state of Veracruz, Mexico whose staple agricultural crops, premium 100% Arabica coffee and sugarcane, come together in a bottle of the famous blend.
This year Kahlúa celebrates its White Russian heritage with a Kahlúa Productions short film debut. The liqueur has joined forces with Academy Award-winning, film icon Jeff Bridges to release “The White Russian”, a short film honouring the classic cocktail.
“The White Russian” short was directed by Ivan Zacharias of Stink and is told as a bar-stool tale by a man reminiscing about past adventures. The drinker is none other than film legend Jeff Bridges, and as the intriguing tale unwinds we become voyeurs, let in to an intriguing story about two men from different worlds. With a few surprise characters and plot twists, present-day Bridges narrates the unusual adventure all the while sipping on his White Russian cocktail.
The Kahlúa Production is set in the Mexican dessert in the early 70’s, and the bar is straight from the modern day. You may even find yourself there one day!
As with every great film, there’s a great mystery, and in the spirit of interactivity, Kahlúa is asking you to get involved and get the chance to win the ultimate White Russian prize. “What’s the question?” I hear you ask! It’s the age old missive: what’s in the case?
