I care for others more than myself: Men’s fashion photography inspired by Robert Doisneau

Inspired by Robert Doisneau

“I lose sight of both the dream and the hope.

I indulge in drugs and liquor and all I wish for is to die. It’s so selfish. Every day I repeat this ritual but I am still alive.

I remember that there is the cello, a keepsake from my father that he once used to play. Every day he would be my teacher and we’d practice together. In an moment, I make up my mind. I take my cello and wander the city’s streets. I perform once again. Every day. And my ritual dies. The dream and the hope rejoice. Gradually, the cello becomes more important than oneself. Becomes the means to end my selfishness, to care about others more than myself.”

Robert Doisneau was a French photographer. In the 1930s he used a Leica on the streets of Paris. He and Henri Cartier-Bresson were pioneers of photojournalism. His black and white, realistic documentary style is channelled in this new menswear series by photographer Suguru Saito.
