Planning a move to London? Tips on how to survive – words Alexa Wang

There are numerous reasons for planning a move to London; it might be that you’ve found the perfect job opportunity – or that you want to move somewhere that actually has some job opportunities – or you simply prefer the amazing lifestyle this city provides.

Whatever your circumstances may be, before you up and leave for your new life in the capital, there are a number of things to consider first. To give you a helping hand in your big move, in this post we’ve detailed a few such aspects you should think about, read on to find out what these are:

What are your Property Options?

To start with the most obvious, you should think about where you want to live. Each area has its plusses and minuses and a wealth of different property types. The south for instance is home to lots of Victorian and Edwardian houses, while the North has plenty of flats and the centre is predominantly higher-end properties. The simple answer here is to choose something that suits your budget and lifestyle.

How Long Will you Live There?

Along with your property search you should also think about how long you intend to live in London as this might also help to determine what type of property and the location. For instance, if you’re staying in the short term, a flat would be more appropriate. Alternatively, if you think London is the place you want to live for the foreseeable future, look at what amenities for families are there in your chosen area.

How will you Commute?

The chances are you won’t need your car (if you currently have one) as London’s excellent public transport can see you swiftly around the capital. With this though, look at the bus routes and tube stations in your area to see how accessible everything is – and more importantly how quick your commute to work or places of interest might be.

How Will you Integrate?

Finally, remember that London is a huge place and if you’re moving alone it might be a little daunting at first. As such look at what social events are on in your preferred neighbourhood and there are websites available that can help you meet likeminded people or recommend clubs for you to join.

Naturally, not all of these will apply to your circumstances, but it’s still worth pursuing as many of these considerations as possible. When you do, you’ll help put yourself on the right path to a safe a secure move to this fantastic city.
