Imagine you are stranded on a desert island, with no way to contact help, but enough resources to keep you alive. By the end of the first week, you can be sure that the feeling of unrelenting boredom will soon start settling in. You would have absolutely nothing to write about in your 2023 diary, and things would quickly look bleak. Unless you are prepared with a list of fun and exciting things to keep you entertained and occupied while you are on your own, time can seem never-ending.
Thankfully there is a long list of activities that you can do all by yourself, and you are nowhere near being stranded on a desert island. You don’t have to be in a relationship to go out and enjoy what the world has to offer, as single people are not forgotten about. Remember, you and you alone are in charge of your own happiness so go out there and make yourself as happy as you possibly can be by finding some fun things to do.
Let’s take a look at just a few fun activities that you can do without the help of anyone else.
For some reason, over the years, the act of dining out alone has developed some sort of stigma, and some people find it an unappealing concept. While certain establishments are usually set up for two or more at a table, there are many others that have specific seating for solo diners or have no trouble rearranging things slightly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating dinner at a restaurant by yourself.
Go ahead, pick your favourite restaurant in your area, make a reservation if you feel inclined, and take yourself out on a much-needed dinner date. You will quickly see that the stigma of eating alone has no legs, and it can actually be a very enjoyable experience. Not cooking or cleaning, as a single person, can be a rare occurrence.
Although it doesn’t have to happen sequentially, if your dinner date with yourself went well, you could always extend it by seeing a movie or a live show. The great thing about watching a movie or live performance is that it is not meant to be a social activity, and going solo helps keep it that way. Go have a laugh at your favourite new comedy, or check out that foreign action blockbuster from the States, there is no rule or law stating that you can’t. Going solo is going to make sure there are no arguments about what you see.
There is no shortage of areas to trek in Australia, and if you are the type to do so, it doesn’t always have to be with a group of people. As long as you prepare accordingly, solo hikes don’t have to pose any more risk than going with other people. The country has more terrain and diversity than you could see in an entire lifetime, and getting to see it solo is a completely different experience.
Remember to stay safe, especially if you have zero or little hiking/outdoor walking experience, and start slow. If you are interested, it is easy enough to find someone to show you the ropes, and then you can venture forth solo.
A lot of people travel to Australia on their annual holidays for a reason, there is a lot for them to see and do, keeping them occupied and engaged. Why not take a look at some of these places and activities yourself? Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef is something that a lot of people in the world could not even imagine getting a chance to do, so take advantage of your good luck.
If snorkelling isn’t your thing, there are countless other tourist areas and activities that you could take part in. Everything from whale watching to wine tasting to wakeboarding is available, it all depends on what you are in the mood for.
There is a lot to see in this country, so hit the road and start taking it all in while you still can. Some people never even step foot out of their hometowns throughout their lives, and that would leave a lot of things to be desired. If you have the time, plan a solo road trip somewhere you have never been, and just go. The freedom of the road and the amazing views will leave you feeling like a new person.
There is absolutely no reason that you can’t go out and have a great time by yourself just about anywhere in the country. As long as you keep an open mind, there are many things that you can do by yourself, and most likely enjoy more from doing so. All it takes is a little push out the door, and you will be on the path to any number of new experiences, all on your own.
